UPROOTED: The Katrina Project
|
Alternate ROOTS in collaboration with Holden & Arts Associates has developed a tour of Gulf Coast Alternate ROOTS members who will travel and perform work based on a culture and spirit that will not be washed away. The tour brings member-artists directly affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina to communities to engage in art for social change and deliver a taste of home to those internally displaced citizens throughout the country.

UPROOTED: The Katrina Project is at the forefront of a relief effort that focuses on rebuilding community and energizing community activism.

UPROOTED: The Katrina Project was recently featured at the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven, CT. From June 13, - 18, 2006 ROOTS member-artists conducted residency activities with the New Haven community, including displaced citizens from New Orleans.
During the course of the week the artists conducted story circles that informed the ongoing creation of UPROOTED: The Katrina Project. In addition the Story Circles were assisted by graphic facilitator Brandy Agerbeck (see Story Circle Art link below).
